Camp Director

 

Full-time Residential Position
Effective: January 1, 2012

Responsible to: Executive Director

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree or experience in Organized Camping or related field of study
  2. Minimum of five years administrative and/or supervisory experience
  3. Ability to administer the Camps in the absence of the Executive Director
  4. Ability to develop, implement and supervise programs in summer residential camping and day camping, challenge/experiential education, and outdoor school programs
  5. Holds a current, valid driver’s license

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to communicate and work with staff and provide necessary instruction
  2. Visual, physical and auditory ability to immediately identify and respond to environmental, staff, program and camper related issues
  3. Physical ability to participate in all facets of camp programs
  4. Ability to work long hours, especially during the operation of the summer camp

Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit, train and supervise program staff
  2. Be responsible for administration and supervision of all camp programming
  3. Develop, implement and supervise an outdoor school program in environmental education
  4. Develop, implement and supervise a resident and day summer camp program
  5. Develop, implement and supervise special use programs
  6. Supervise Assistant Camp Director, Food Services Manager, and seasonal staff to assure the efficient and effective operation of all camp programs
  7. Coordinate all resources to ensure efficient and effective utilization
  8. Purchase and order all program supplies for assigned areas
  9. Establish a pre-camp staff training and orientation program for all assigned areas stressing goals, objectives, program structure and operating procedures
  10. Be responsible for areas of administration and program development as assigned by the Executive Director
  11. Assist in the recruitment for all camp summer programs
  12. Schedule school year (September – May) programs and facility use
  13. Plan and develop evaluative processes for all assigned areas
  14. Participate and be active in the camp’s public relations program
  15. Submit all reports on time, including Annual Comprehensive Plan
  16. Meet regularly with Assistant Camp Director, Food Services Manager and seasonal staff to coordinate all facets of Camp programming
  17. Become completely familiar with and annually update all camp procedural manuals such as Risk Management Code, Crisis Management Procedures, and Outdoor School Manuals, in preparation for review by Executive Director
  18. Establish a procedure to be accredited with a nationally-recognized professional camping organization such as the American Camping Association
  19. Along with the Executive Director, establish a professional in-service training program for staff
  20. Maintain current certification in CPR, AED and First Aid
  21. Participate and be on call in the operation of all camp programs
  22. Ensure that the Camps are operated safely and are in compliance with relevant policies and requirements both of the Board of Directors and the American Camp Association
  23. Such other duties as required by the Board of Directors of CMC and/or the Executive Director

Salary:

The Camp Director’s salary will be commensurate with experience.
